Seller School – Pricing

We have heard so many stories of how the Dittos for Kiddos Sale allows families in our community to affordably clothe their children. Anyone who has shopped the sale can testify to the great deals that keep them coming back every spring and fall. Not only the savings on buying, but there are very few outlets that allow families to earn as much as a 65 – 70% return on the sale of their gently used items while having their items shopped by thousands of shoppers (meaning more items sold!).

We strongly encourage each of our consignors to carefully consider the pricing of their items. If our consignors continue pricing their items fairly, Dittos for Kiddos will continue to be a win-win for both consignors and shoppers!

It is for these reasons that Dittos for Kiddos reserves the right to pull items from the sales floor that are considerably over-priced.

Pricing can be tricky – here are some thoughts to keep in mind.

  • Above all – PRICE TO SELL! There’s nothing more rewarding than cleaning out your closets AND making money at the same time!
  • Let things go for A DISCOUNT! It’s better to get 75% or 50% and clean out your closets than to get items back that you don’t need. And don’t forget – if you plan to donate your unsold items, they will automatically be marked discount!
  • A good rule-of-thumb for ALL types of items is to price them at 25% – 30% of retail. This varies according to the brand of your items and the condition they are in. Generally items should never be priced over 30% unless they are new, never used, in the original packaging or with tags. Pricing at consignment sales is most similar to resale or consignment shops’ pricing.
  • If you don’t know the price your item retailed for, here are some guidelines to follow:

CLOTHING: $2-4 for play shirts, shorts, etc. (remember – no stains or holes!), $3-7 for nicer shirts or shorts, $5-10 for nice 2-piece outfits, $3-8 for jeans or khakis, $5-15 for nice dresses, $7-18 for multiple-piece sets. These are only examples for your more common brands, such as Carters, GAP, Ralph Lauren, Children’s Place, Old Navy, Osh Kosh, Gymboree, etc. Boutique and European brands such as Baby Lulu, Baby Nay, Mis Tee V Us, Strasburg, Orient Expressed, Matilda Jane, Peaches N Cream, Baby Sara, etc. could be priced at 30-35% of retail or $2-8 higher than the prices above, depending on their condition.

SHOES: Infant and toddler shoes generally range from $2-6. Others generally range from $4-10. Slippers and flip-flops should be priced under $4. Current, name-brand shoes in excellent condition may be priced higher in the $8-10 range. Generally, only boutique branded shoes could be priced over $10.

EQUIPMENT: Stroller prices vary greatly based on their condition, style and features. Most stroller prices (excluding umbrella strollers) typically range between $12-65, with double strollers and combos possibly going higher.

Cribs usually range from $25-100, depending on their age, style, condition and brand.

Walkers and Bouncy Seats: $5-25.

Exer-saucers: $8-25. Swings: $8-30.

Car Seats: $10-50

Pack-n-Plays: $10-50.

MISC: DVD’s: $2-10.

  • This is only a guide – you are free to price your items less or more than the average range.
  • Keep in mind that the Dittos for Kiddos Sale reserves the right to pull items from the sales floor if they are considerably over-priced.
